Kelly Clarkson Admits To ‘Behind The Scenes’ Drama After Recording Same Song As Tokio Hotel
There is one thing Kelly Clarkson is not a fan of, and that is surprises. Unfortunately for her, she just got a big one.
Kelly’s latest album, Piece By Piece, features a powerful sweeping ballad, “Run, Run, Run,” that instantly caught people’s attention, not just because it’s beautiful and features John Legend, but because Tokio Hotel released the same exact song on their 2014 album, Kings Of Suburbia.
читать дальшеBut guess what? That whole detail was something that was “unbeknownst” to Kelly, who told us that this situation has been the “craziest thing.”
“I emailed him [John Legend] and I was like ‘Oh my God, I didn’t know, just so you know’ and he was like ‘who cares, a lot of people record songs and that is how music is all the time,’” she said. “I’m not a fan of surprises, but at the same time it’s a great song and David [Jost], who I had thought written the song at the time by himself… I got the song on the Maroon 5 tour (which took place in 2013) and cut my vocal and we didn’t really find out until after it was out.”
But now that it is out, Kelly is actually pretty grateful she didn’t contribute to the writing of the song. “There’s a lot going on behind the scenes of who says who wrote it,” she explained. “I’m just really glad I’m not a writer because that means no lawsuit for me, I’m just singing it.”
Tokio Hotel have tweeted out their support for her version, but Kelly just wants to make things clear to the fans that she “wasn’t ripping them off.” “I just don’t like being surprised and that’s just because the audience doesn’t know that so it appears differently than it is,” she said. “But luckily they were super supportive and when I found out I was like, there are two great versions.”
And even though she has to deal with this “stressful” situation, it doesn’t take away from the fact that she loves the song, telling us that it is one of the most emotional tracks on the album.
“It’s just such a raw, bluesy side to my voice. I love how tragic it is, its like the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ of songs…” she said. “I think that represents what love can feel like sometimes you can find a whole new level of low. Wow, I thought I was on the bottom, but nope.”
