Germany's gift to the popworld is on a quick visit in Finland and of course they wanted to meet up with "Simosas stiftelse"...


Translation of the radio interview:
Anne: Now it’s finally time for the interview with Tokio Hotel, we have waited for this for a long time and now we have a guest here in the studio. It’s someone very special, it’s our own producer Johan Aldonen.
Johan: “I thought you were going to say that it was Tokio Hotel. But it’s not, it’s just me...”

The other dude and Johan speak in German, just some silly jokes.

The weird dude: “Im just joking around with you” *scary laugh*

Weird dude: “I have to tell you something. Anne and I were about to do an interview with Tokio Hotel, we had said we were interested to interview them. And you should have seen the psychopathic look our producer gave us, he slapped us and screamed “NO! I am going to the interview!!!”. And you have no idea how happy he has been after that, it was clearly a big moment for him.

Johan: “It WAS a big moment! I have floated on clouds ever since... It was beautiful boys who stepped in to the studio. All 4 group members were there – the twins, Bill and Tom Kaulitz, who most of you associate with Tokio Hotel. And then also Georg and Gustav, who are more of background figures.
They are very, very popular, they have ALOT of fans all over the world. Mostly in Europe but in other places too. Alot of people know about them and love their music. But it has not always been like this, they started when they were young and unknown. So, the first question I wanted to ask them was how it feels to be so very popular and how it was the first time they realized they actually had fans.”

Bill:Well you never get used to it. You don't feel like to be a star every day. Actualy, it is always unusal to us, if things like this happen. I do remember very well the first time. It was a small village and it was our first performance after the realease of our first single. The concert had to be interrupted, because there were not enough securtiy. They never expected so much Fans...and we were also totaly overwhelmed. I do remeber exatcly, that we actually did not get it at all. I do remember this day very well.

Johan: “That was Bill, the singer, who answered that question and he says that he still thinks it’s very strange that they have fans. That everytime they meet fans it’s the same feeling and just as weird as the first time.
The first time they realized they had fans was when they had released their first single and they were on a gig in a small village in Germany. The place was so small, they had no security. So many fans showed up that they had to cancel the concert and run out through the back door before everything escalated into chaos. That’s what they remember, it was beautiful. Look *shows the others a photo* this is Bill when he’s telling us the story. It was a very touching story!”

Anne: “Yes, it was!”

Weird dude: “Im crying over here...”

Anne: “... they were very humble and I appreciate that. Because they have become famous so fast and you can easily become a bit conceited. But there’s no sign of that with these guys.”

Johan: “No, they seem to be very honest and sympathetic. You almost become unpleasantly touched of how sympathetic they are.
Anyway, more about their fame. Can they even walk on the streets without being recognized? Do they have any privacy at all?”

Bill : Well actually...you don't have privacy at all. We have given it up at age 15

Tom: But the privacy thing is not necessarily because we always meet fans. It is like...everyone is recognizing us, if we are in the public. Whether they like or dislike our music, they recognize us anyway. To walk like a normal guy on the street is not possible anymore and we have not done it since we have been 15 years old....and actually we do have only a little time to do privat stuff..because we are estimated 320 days on the road with the band. And of course, even if the spotlight is off...we continue to work

Johan: “No, the poor guys in Tokio Hotel havent had a private life since they were 15 years old actually. That’s what they’re telling us. I dont know, 15 years old... Before Tokio Hotel they called themselves Devilish, they were just a local band and had no record deal. So they have done music for quite a while eventhough theyre all just around their 20’s. So, no private life there. They say that everybody recognizes them on the street. And not only their fans but also people who dont like their music walks up to them on the steet, which makes it hard for them to go outside unnoticed.
An other thing that makes it hard for them to have a private life is that they work with the band 320 days a year, that’s quite alot....”

Weird dude: “What are they doing the other days?” (mein gott, lame xD)

Johan: “Yea, I was wondering the same... I dont know. They do something else...”

Weird dude: “Maybe theyre playing Pidro(?)” (??? Dont know what that is... :S)

Johan: “They dont have that much time for other things.”

Anne: “They’re celebrating their birthdays, of course!”

Johan: “Yea, of course, birthdays. Actually 3 of the 4 band members have just had their birthdays this past week. The twins, Bill and Tom, and Gustav, the drummer. So, of course I asked them how they celebrated their birthdays.”

Bill: Tom and I have rented a theme-parc ( amusment-parc). We have fullfilled our childhood-dream. We have been there with Georg and Gustav, our closet family members and friends and we had the entire theme-parc for us...I love stuff like this, i can't get enough of it. We have been ten times on the rollercoster, for real, but i guess it, was not a good idea...because on the next day, all of us felt a little bit sick.

Tom: Yes...and Gustav celebrated his birthday yesterday in Stockholm

Gustav: Ja...Stockholm

Johan: “Bill and Tom celebrated their birthday by renting an amusment park, it was one of their childhood dreams. They rented the entire park and invited their friends and family, and of course the other band members.” (lol, what, theyre not their friends? xD)

Weird dude: “So 3/4 of the band have their birthday in a week. What if they wouldnt invite the other dude who dont have birthday that week?” *laughs* -.-

Johan: “Haha, a hint for what they think about him... Anyway, this is how they celebrated the twins and poor Gustav had his birthday when the band was on their PR tour in Stockholm. So he celebrated his birthday in Stockholm and they all laughed at him. It was a bit tragic actually...” (HEEY! We sang Happy Birthday outside the hotel!!! And what’s wrong with Stockholm?? xDDD)

Weird dude: “Aaaaaw, Gusse!!!” (LMAO xD)

Johan: “...and he just sat there and was a bit ashamed about it.”

Anne: “That’s awful.”

RADIO EXTREME

Anne: “We have our producer here in the studio and he has interviewed the band we’ll soon talk more about. But Johan, you also got to hear some of the songs from their new record. How was that?”

Johan: “It was a bit...ehm, I was pretty surprised actually. They all sounded so different, I listened to 5 songs from the new record that’ll be released in the beginning of October. And some of them sounded, just like with Automatisch, like an old Tokio Hotel song. Like from the previous record...”

Weird dude: “Rock hard!” O___o

Johan: “.... –laughter- Yea, you could hear it was them. But then, the other songs had a new sound that I actually like better. They didnt have that typical Tokio Hotel sound. I think it will be hard for many to recognize them. But Im sure there’ll be some more big hits from this album.”

Anne: “Was it more pop or rock?”

Johan: “They had a rockier sound... a heavier sound, more guitars and stuff. Yup! Anyway, the album will be released in the beginning of October, as I said. So I asked the guys the question, how would you describe the new album?”

Bill:For the first time...Tom and I have coproduced the album. It is a different Tokio Hotel album. For a long time we have not written new songs and we toured a lot with the old stuff...and on the end of last year...we could not listen to us anymore or even look at us....we needed a break. We finaly wanted to write new songs and also take a look on our development. Ja..the album is a little bit more electronic. We removed ourself a bit from only using Guitar, Bass and Drums. We tried a little bit more and a new sound-world is involved. The producition and writing had last almost a year.


Johan: ”Bill and Tom write most of the songs, so they told us that the reason they started to make new songs was because they were so incredibly tired of their old songs. They were tired of seeing them and hearing them, so they didnt want anything to do with them anymore. So that’s why they decided to make a new album. They also say that this is a very different Tokio Hotel album, where they have uses new instruments, not only guitar, bass and drums. I dont know, the 5 songs I heard didnt have any new instruments but... we will see with the other songs.”

Anne: “Couldnt you hear the triangle (I dont know if that’s what u say in english, in swedish it’s “triangel”) and the flute?”

Weird dude: “Pling!!!”

Johan: “Haha, and the ukulele... exactly. Haha. But we’ll see, the album will be released in both an English version and a German version, of course. They claim themselves that it’s because they want to offer their fans alot more. But we who are a bit cynical think it’s because they want to sell a bit more.”

Anne: “I personally think it’s a good thing. Because I struggled alot in school with German. If my teacher had made two records, one in German and one in English I would have learned alot faster.”

Johan: “Probably. So now everybody will learn German because of Tokio Hotel. And that’s not bad. Anyway, this band has sold millions of records. And at some point the question about money will turn up, and now of course we asked them what they do with all the money they earn.”


Bill: As you just noticed, we are not that rich, because otherwise my wish would not be the downloads

Tom: Ja

Bill: If it had not come to the downloads...i would have certainly almost retired. But...some always tend to think...., but you have to say nowerdays ...in the music buisiness you actually earn no millions, that some might believe....perhabs ten years ago it was like this....if you want to be really rich...you have to be a soccer-player or a racedriver....

Tom: But you have to say, that we are a band, that like to loose a lot of money ...because we say NO to 10.000 things a day...where we would probably earn a lot of money....but we don't want to do it...because we don't like it...

Bill: Or we play a concert and blow up the whole venue with all the pyrotechnics..and in the end there is no money left to go home with.

Tom: Or we do it like this time...shooting such an expensiv video...like for Automatic...and earn no money for the next half year


Johan: “They claim that they’re not at all as rich as many tend to think they are. Eventhough they rented an amusement park on their birthday. They said they use alot of money for pyrotechnique and light effects on their shows and also the video for the new single “Automatisch” costed them so much that they wont earn a single penny the next 6 months. I dont know if it’s true but it’s what they say.
Then I had to ask them a question about their band name.You get weird associations, it’s not the most obvious name to come up with. But I asked them, if they could have a place for example a hotel, that would be called Tokio Hotel. What would it be like?”

Bill: Tokio Hotel would probably an awesome Hotel. We do think anyway about...

Tom: Ja...we think about for now to write an hotel-guide...because we stayed in so many hotels worldwide from very good to very bad... and second...we could open an awesome hotel.

Bill: Ja...we truely love to open a hotel...maybe some day we will do it..a perfect hotel...from the electic socket by the bed

Tom: Ja..from the ecletic socket by the bed to a perfect comfortable bathtub...everything perfect..
Johan: “They say that they actually have thought of opening up their own place called Tokio Hotel and it would be the most perfect of all the perfect hotels in the world. And they also say that they’re actually quite the experts when it comes to hotels since they’ve stayed in so many weird places all around the world during their tours. The most perfect hotel would have a beautiful bathtub in a beautiful bathroom. And then the most important thing of all, there must be an electic socket by the bed.”

Anne: “An electric socket by the bed? I think there is always a socket by the bed...?”

Johan: “Obviously not in the hotels Tokio Hotel have stayed in.”

Weird dudes: “Oh those poor bastards, what kind of hotels are they staying on?” xD

Anne: “Im happy they said they wanted the socket by the bed, it wouldve been a bit terrifying if they wanted one by the bathtub.”

Johan: “That wouldve been worse, for sure. That wouldve explained his hair though...”

Anne: “Oh no, YEAAA... no. Wait, Johan when you met them, were they still as styled as they usually are?”

Johan: “Yea, the singer, Bill was. But the other 3 were just like... you... and me.”

Anne: “Aha...okay.”

Weird dude: “Aha, that beautiful? What did they think about your Tokio Hotel tattoos?”

Johan: “They loved them, especially the ones I have on my forehead!”

Your new album releases in the beginning of october, how satisfied are you with the result?

Bill: we're very satisfied, it's very exciting, because we've produced very long, worked very long at it. It's like a baby, you don't know what you're doing somehow. You're doing something you like and you're happy with it, and then the time comes when it's released, and we're really nervous.And we're really happy with it, we took our time, tried a lot of new things, and are really satisfied.

The title means humanoid, is that something personal or.. how did you come up with the title?

Tom: It is kinda personal, Humanoid was a little a feeling that accompanied Bill and me through life.It's like that until today.And we realised with writing songs for the album that the title fits to us.
For the first time the album is released in english and german at the same time, is it different to sing in english?

Bill: Well, it was a challenge to do both languages from the beginning, because last time we had more time, we translated afterwards.And it was more work than expected, because we made the texts in two languages and it takes two times longer. For example, the videos. But we didn't want to neglect any version.I had to get used to it, but nowadays.. We're kinda back to the beginning, to what we did in the beginning. When we started ten years ago, we started in german and english too. And now we're doing that again. It feels good.

What's it like to be famous in the USA and Canada?

Tom: Very good, of course. I mean, we hope to go to as much countries as possible.And we haven't been to Japan until now, we still wanna do that. And it's great, of course. Those can't be too much countries for us.

Are the fans different then here over there?

Tom: I think every fan is different, I don't think you can decide that in countries. You can't say it's like that in Canada, and like that in France.

What was the experience like to do the photoshoot with Karl Lagerfelt[?] for the vogue?

Bill: It was a very good experience.It's like dreams you can make true in between and it was really nice.I was really excited that I was able to do that. We could get along well and I like him very much, it was really nice to work with him. It was a very nice photoshoot and it was really nice.

Did you know from the beginning what he wanted?

Bill:I think we can understand eachother really well, because we're both perfectionists. I really know what I want, and he too. I think it was the fastes photoshoot I ever had and it went really well.

With the last album, things happend offstage, with stalkers. Are those the shadow-sides you have to live with?

Bill: It are the shadow-sides, the things the success takes along and you have to live with.It really is one of the negative things.

Did it get better, is it over now?

Bill:I don't think it will ever get over. [?]

Tom: Well, we're a lot away, and because of that we don't really get to know it. Because of that it's a little hard to decide, but last year, when we produced the album, we tried to live completely privat. And than we realised that has become really hard.

You were accused of punching one of the stalkers, how is that now, is that still going on?

Tom: Yes, that..Yes.

Gustav, you were attacked with a beer-glass.That must have hurt, not?

Gustav: Yeah, yeah. It has hurt.

Tom: We have had really different things that have hurt, to be honest. We fight daily, that hurts much more.

As said, I believe you're the only one in a official relationship, Georg?

Georg: Yes, not only official. I'm the only one that's taken.

How does it look like at the others?Nothing new?

Bill:With me like before, because of Tokio Hotel...Yeah, there wasn't a relationship. I hope it'll change sometime. I'd love to tell something different, I'm not the one to keep that a secret. That's really stupid, not to say it. I hope it'll happen sometime, of course.

So, last question, because you lived completely private: did you miss everything, the concerts and so?

Bill: Well, it's nice sometimes to not see each other every day. And when there's written so much shit, you'll love to sit back and make music and so. It was actually only irritating. We were making the album and you want the people to hear that sometime, so it feels good to go out and to be ready with the album and... I can't imagine not doing it for years or something like that. I need it.When you're not on stage for a long time, you want to do it again.

Еще про M&G в Швеции

Я встала в 2 часа ночи, автобус отправился в Стокгольм в 03:50. В том же автобусе было 5 фанаток, но я никого из них раньше не знала. Мы приехали к NRJ примерно в 06:45. Был уже много поклонников, и, когда часы приблизились к половине восьмого, собралось 70-80 человек. Была классная атмосфера, много энергии в воздухе. Tokio Hotel находилась на дороге!


У многих телефоны играли на максимальной громкости, чтобы мы могли слушать радио-интервью live. За несколько минут до восьми приехали черные машины. Потом мы услышали, как по радио говорят, что Tokio Hotel уже в студии, так что их машину, мы уже видели. Они пошли в другую сторону ...

Это было странное чувство - слышать их разговоры и знать, что лишь несколько стен отделяют нас от них. Они сыграли много песен, в том числе, Monsoon и Automatic. Это было так чудесно - мы пели на улице! Все пели песни Tokio Hotel, я думаю, если бы они слышали нас там ... Они услышали нас, по крайней мере, когда мы (ладно, не я, а другие ...) кричали!

Интервью было хорошим, подумала я. Я меня раздражало, что они взяли Chantelle, Тома не может оправдать то, что он говорит (??? не поняла при переводе) Мы также узнали, что Густав только что получил права после аварии с трамваем, в которую он попал весной прошлого года. (по-моему, это было осенью, перед ЕМА) Я надеялась, что он получил их обратно сразу же! Единственное, что меня действительно раздражало, было то, что их переводчик говорил одновременно с Биллом!

Вскоре после того, как мы прибыли в дому, снова открылись два окна на втором этаже, и Густав, Том и Билл помахали нам! Многие фанаты кричали, все махали, как сумасшедшие, и фотографировали. Было так прекрасно - увидеть их! Все они в солнцезащитных очках - Том в рубашке! Я никогда раньше не видела его в рубашке, ха-ха!

В обед я пошла, чтобы быть с Tokio Hotel в чате на Aftonbladet.se. Жаль, что они были так мало. Чат длился всего 20 минут, и много времени заняли вопросы и ответы. Это означало, что они едва ответили на некоторые вопросы из 8000 переданных! Тем не менее было весело, что они разговаривали с фанами!

Мы сидели там в течение нескольких часов. Мы разговаривали с людьми, которые вышли после интервью, и сказали, что ребята хотели приехать к нам, но они не знали, смогут ли они, потому что они отстают от графика. Некоторые фанаты во второй половине дня отправились домой. Жалко их ...

Мы встретились, парень из звукозаписывающей компании провел нас через заднюю дверь отеля. Мы поднялись на лифте. Сколько этажей я не знаю, но мы были высоко! Мы стояли в коридоре и ждали некоторое время, может быть, 20 минут, а люди из звукозаписывающей компании и команды TH готовили комнату, где мы должны были встретиться.

Пока мы стояли и ждали, пришел Билл с новым телохранителем. Он был с Биллом в Dior в Париже. Гигант! За шесть футов высотой.

Наконец мы попали в комнату. Она была очень маленькая. Люди из рекорд-компании были там.

Нам рассказали правила - было разрешено фотографировать, ребята будут ходить и подойдут к каждому из нас, но обнимать и целовать было запрещено! В конце, всех, кто хотел, сфотографировались с группой.

Потом они пришли в конце концов! Ох, они так приятны! Первым зашел Том, он был еще в рубашке, как и утром, с черной майкой под ней. Это было странно - видеть его в рубашке. XD Я должна признаться, что я немного опасалась, что ему придется немного измениться, как личность тоже, в контексте изменения его стиля ... Но как только Он подошел ко мне, пожал мне руку и посмотрел мне в глаза, я успокоилась снова. Он был всегда. Том тот же, как и прежде. Все те же красивые глаза и улыбка в уголках рта!

Другие были, как раньше. Билл был столь же прекрасен, как глаза Тома, ха-ха это почти неизбежно, что некоторые в них тонут! Конечно, мне все еще не нравится его новый стиль, но глаза не могут измениться ... И не улыбаться или смеяться- Ах, как я люблю смех Билла!

Георг улыбнулся мне, как он делал всегда, когда я встречалась с ним. Есть многие, кто думают, что он не красив, или даже, что он уродливый, - но я думаю, что большинство из них, вероятно, никогда не видели его в реальной жизни. Правда, он такой красивый! И особенно вблизи! Люблю его улыбку! Густав был также хорошо, как обычно. Было немного странно видеть его в очках, но он вписывается в стиль. Он хорошо выглядит с черными волосами в черных очках, он аккуратен!

Ребята пожали руки каждому.

У некоторых из нас не было подарков для них. Цветы, майки... я поздравила Густава и передала ему подарок книгу от девушки рядом с отелем. Он подошел к Георгу, чтобы передать ему, он протянул руку, чтобы взять, Билл выхваетывает ее из рук Георга и говорит "Спасибо!" - так типично Билла, хаха!

Потом была фотосъемка. Я была третьим номером. Ноги немного дрожали, когда я подошла к ним. Они стояли и улыбались, смотрели на меня - и я стоял между Биллом и Георгом. Entertainment Weekly: Вы когда-нибудь думали, что станете настолько успешными так быстро?

Билл: Нет, мы абсолютно не ожидали этого. Мы приехали из маленькой деревушки, где не было музыкальной индустрии. Мы такого не ожидали – было множество счастливых и удачных совпадений для нас, и мы абсолютно счастливы, что получили шанс сделать всё это. Мы только делаем свое дело и пытаемся делать его хорошо.

EW: Ваш успех изменил ваш подход к сочинению музыки? Вы когда-нибудь задумываетесь в студии: «Я должен попытаться написать хит»?

Билл: Мы стараемся отгородиться от давления. Не хорошо, когда в студии ты думаешь: «О, я должен написать хит как “Monsoon” или что-то в этом роде». Ты просто приходишь и записываешь свои мысли. Надо просто делать то, что ты любишь, и, я думаю, тогда это хорошо получается. Когда тебе нравится то, что ты делаешь, это прекрасно.

EW: Том, я слышал, что Вы поклонник хип-хопа – Вы когда-нибудь пытались включить его в свое звучание?

Том: Иногда. У нас есть домашняя студия. Иногда я тайно исполнял некоторые биты, некоторые гитарные проигрыши и материал, как этот, но я никогда не пробовал это в нашей музыке. И в действительности я не такой хороший рэпер, так что я никогда и не пробовал. Может быть однажды, возможно лет через 10 или около того, но пока, нет, это не входит в мои планы.

EW: Когда Ваше выступление идет на английском языке, это выглядит весьма естественно, но Вы должны думать о каждом слоге, который Вы поете?

Билл: В начале, для первого английского диска, это действительно было трудно для меня, потому что я – перфекционист и я действительно хотел звучать естественно, а не как немец, который пытается петь на английском языке. Так что это занимало много времени в студии, но теперь у меня все прекрасно. Это было похоже на начало Tokio Hotel. 10 лет назад мы начали с английских и немецких песен, но английские были так плохи. Это не был хороший английский, отчасти даже смущающий. Но теперь я действительно готов применять его. Если я на сцене, это полностью моя песня!

EW: Также Вы очень оригинально выглядите. Есть какие-нибудь модные тенденции, которым Вы следуете?

Билл: Я так не думаю. У меня никогда не было образца для подражания или чего-то в этом роде. Но ребенком я любил все фильмы про вампиров, так что это можно назвать влиянием.

EW: Вам нравятся популярные вампирские истории, как «Сумерки» и т.п.?

Билл: Да, я действительно люблю этот фильм. Все говорили о нем, а я был не в теме. Я не знал о фильме, а потом все говорили «Ты должен это видеть, ты должен это видеть», и я говорил «хорошо, хорошо». Затем мы летели в Лос-Анжелес, и я посмотрел этот фильм в самолете, и он действительно очень-очень хорош.

EW: Быть братьями, особенно близнецами, которые вместе находятся в туре и на записи, легче или Вы чувствуете конкуренцию?

Том: Мне кажется, бывает и то и другое, но полностью нормальным для нас является быть вместе. У нас всегда одни и те же друзья и одинаковые интересы во всем. Мы, как вы знаете, вместе 24 часа в сутки каждый день.

Билл: И я не могу - мы не можем - жить друг без друга. Мы всегда вместе. Мы как один человек и как закадычные друзья. Нам даже не нужно разговаривать друг с другом.

Том: Но если мы деремся, это действительно жестокая драка. Мы берем все, что находим: стол и стул, и всё, что попадется. Мы деремся.

Билл: Но не то, чтобы часто, большую часть времени мы полностью кажемся одним человеком.

EW: Есть что-нибудь, чего Вы не достигли как группа, но хотели бы?

Том: Ммм, да, мы хотим сыграть в Токио.

Билл: Мы еще никогда не были в Токио, так что это единственная вещь. И мы хотим отыграть мировой тур, это есть наша мечта.

EW: Так что с Вашей любовью к Токио, если Вы там не были, что он значит для Вас?

Билл: Я думаю, мы только слышали о нем и он похож на огромный город и, конечно, это классное звучание: «Токио» звучит так круто. Так что это была главная причина, по которой мы выбрали его.
